We use -mtune flags which lets our application have
SPE intruction in them which is a good thing but when
running qemu especially in user mode these application
wont work with default powerpc emulation. Therefore we
have to add proper -cpu option to let qemu emulate for
a given cpu.

The intent of the uImage code in this class includes the following
1) be able to specify custom load addresses without needing to patch the kernel
2) add better information to the uImage description field
The current state is a NOP anyway, the kernel will always build a uImage when you tell it to 'make uImage'.
weakly Set KEEPUIMAGE to 'yes' in default-distrovars.inc which preserve the
current OE-Core behavior. Machines which are being ported from oe.dev and need to
regenerate uImage can set this to be empty

The bb and os modules are always imported so having these extra import calls
are a waste of space/execution time. They also set a bad example for people
copy and pasting code so clean them up.

Many recipes are now having to define PERLPATH and PYTHONPATH variables.
Creating USRBINPATH in bitbake.conf means we can remove all these lines
from the many recipes now needing this and simplify the code changes
needed in each case, reducing the chance of errors being introduced.
Also fixup glib python binary location issue and fix function indentation.

Originally, git was something new, not installed everywhere and had commandline
stability problems. This has changed and git it no longer makes sense to
continually build this when the system installed version is likely sufficient.
This speeds up build since recipes no longer have to wait for git-native to build
if they're fetched from a git:// SRC_URI.
Also add git to the sanity checks and drop the no unneeded svn reference.

This project has been unmaintained for some time, and even the OpenMoko
project is not using it any more (in favour of FSO). Since we have ofono
in OE-Core which replaces and surpasses its functionality, we can remove
libgsmd.

qemu.inc does a straight assign to MACHINE_FEATURES so overwriting the
preceding append to MACHINE_FEATURES, so the MACHINE_FEATURES append
needs to be moved after the include.
This situation came about as a result of commit 71a4bf386:
qemumachines: Enable xserver-xorg as default xserver
For qemux86 and qemux86-64 include qemu.inc after defining XSERVER
which missed this side-effect (and maybe others).

Add the kernel headers to the kernel-dev package. This packages what was
already built and kept in sysroots for building modules with bitbake.
Making this available on the target requires removing some additional
host binaries.
Move the location to /usr/src/kernel
Before use on the target, the user will need to:
# cd /usr/src/kernel
# make scripts
This renders the kernel-misc recipe empty, so remove it.
As we use /usr/src/kernel in several places (and I missed one in the
previous version), add a KERNEL_SRC_DIR variable and use that throughout
the class to avoid update errors in the future.
Now that we package the kernel headers, drop the
kernel_package_preprocess function which removed them from PKGD.
All *-sdk image recipes include dev-pkgs, so the kernel-dev package will
be installed by default on all such images.

This enables a switch to subversion 1.7 now bitbake is able to cope with
upgrading existing working copies. The impact of this change should be
minimal since we don't have many subversion recipes now.

USE_NLS is generally defined for uclibc based system builds
and generally its defined to 'no' there. However this variable
does not exist at all for eglibc/glibc distributions. This
patch adds a weak definition to 'yes' on eglibc based system
builds. This will ease out some of the cryptic contructs we
have to define certain options based on USE_NLS and also
checking got uclibc at the same time to avoid pythong exceptions
when its not defined.

The autogen-native built error on FC17:
ccache: failed to create /dev/null/.ccache
This is because the default gcc command of FC17 is a symlink to ccache,
so the ccache will always be used regardless to the setting of CCACHE,
ccache uses $HOME/.ccache as the CACHE_DIR by default, but autogen set
HOME=/dev/null, so the error happens.
Disable ccache explicitly if it is not enabled would fix the problem,
otherwise it would always use ccache regardless to the setting of CCACHE
on Fedora 17.
The ccache 3.1.7 has a bug, it would always create $CCCHE_DIR/.ccache
even CCACHE_DISABLE=1.
Unset CCACHE_DISABLE in ccache.bbclass, since ccache only checks whether
there is a CCACHE_DISABLE in the environment or not, it doesn't care about
its value, so we need unset it explicitly when enable ccache.

This switches to use the hash based signature generatior and update
layout_abi to match stamp file layout changes.
Angstrom and Poky did this a while ago. This brings the OE-Core defaults
into line with what is the best common practise at this point. Its been
discussed on the mailing lists and by the TSC at length, this just completes
the transition.

The bitbake wrapper script is set up such that the -p (--parse-only)
command line option is not executed under pseudo, and it sets the
PSEUDO_BUILD variable to indicate whether or not pseudo is being used.
Since PSEUDO_BUILD is allowed through into the environment via
BB_ENV_EXTRAWHITE it influences the data hash and thus if you run
"bitbake -p" and then run bitbake again to actually build something, the
change to PSEUDO_BUILD causes the cache from the -p execution not to be
used. This is fixed simply by adding PSEUDO_BUILD to
BB_HASHCONFIG_WHITELIST in bitbake.conf so that it doesn't influence the
data hash.

We are going to take a phased approach of breaking up the
distro_tracking_fields, first is to remove it from oe-core,
then create new files in meta-yocto. We are doing this because
the distro_tracking_fields is getting unweildly and some of
the data can be part of a burn down list instead continually
stored, thus it will get split up.

This is needed to work around an issue with the toolchain search paths. It can
pick up the wrong features.h without it, it seems, even with the system32
symlink in the oe sysroot. Investigate this further in the future.

Rather than hardcoding the multilib path in a map, and hardcoding dest sysroot
symlink creation in a hook, now we just use -print-sysroot for both, and pass
the appropriate multilib args to the toolchain for particular tunes.

Set BB_SIGNATURE_EXCLUDE_FLAGS, which is used by the new varflag
checksum code in BitBake. The list is intended to cut out most of the
varflags that are generated internally, don't influence the output or
are already included in the checksum in some way. If need be this list
can be extended in the future. The existing vardepsexclude mechanism
can also be used to exclude undesired varflags, but they must be fully
specified, e.g.:
do_patch[vardepsexclude] += "do_patch[someflag]"

We want the help2man script in scripts/ to be found in preference to any from
the host system and from the native sysroot. It turns out to be tricky to
get the order right from layer.conf so we move the addition of the scripts
directory to bitbake.conf.
Without this, "bitbake libtasn1 -c cleansstate; bitbake help2man-native; bitbake libtasn1"
will fail due to finding the host system help2man before ours.

Currently, ccache is used if it is present. When building from scratch it gives
no performance improvement and creates a ton of empty directories even when its
not in use.
This change moves ccache support to a bbclass file which the user can choose to
enable. This should make builds more determinstic and make it easier/clearer
to the end user when its being used and when it is not.

The wget default is a 900 second timeout and 20 retries. This is way too long
for most of our usecases so this patch changes it to a 30 second timeout and
reduces retries from 5 to 2. We have good mirror infrastructure, this will
let us fall back to it easier.

The xserver-xorg uses and depends on mesa-dri, so we should
use the default PREFERRED_PROVIDER of libgl as mesa-dri.
This resolves the following:
ERROR: Multiple .bb files are due to be built which each provide virtual/libgl (/intel/poky/distro/meta/recipes-graphics/mesa/mesa-dri_7.11.bb /intel/poky/distro/meta/recipes-graphics/mesa/mesa-xlib_7.11.bb).
This usually means one provides something the other doesn't and should.

For qemux86 and qemux86-64 include qemu.inc after defining XSERVER
XSERVER variable is also weakly defined in task-core-x11.bb
which means we can not use ??= otherwise when building any qemu image
that uses task-core-x11.bb will get the wrong definition
So we define the XSERVER common set for qemu in qemu.inc
and as we know x86 and x86-64 qemu overrides the default
we include qemu.inc after that definition which means that
qemux86 and qemux86-64 get their own definitions and other
qemus get the definitions from qemu.inc. other non-qemu machine
will get their defintion from task which points to kdrive
as of now.

While misconfiguring toolchains, I noticed that one of the
diagnostic messages gave me a little less information than I'd
like about what I'd done wrong. Displaying the glob pattern
that couldn't be matched turns out to make it a lot easier to
figure out what you did wrong. (Answer: Not enough coffee.)

Wind River uses binary toolchains provided by Code Sourcery, but which
have different values for a couple of the preset variables than the
generic toolchains the external-csl toolchain feature supports. If
these values were ?= assignments, we could just assign values to them
and share the code, rather than keeping modified copies.

The location of the ccache should not affect the sum in the sstate
files.
The end user should be free to use an external ccache via defining
CCACHE_DIR to a new value in local.conf or using the default per
package local ccache in the temp directory.

This introduces a sanity check for the toolchain, which verifies
each tuning (including any multilibs), producing meaningful diagnostics
for problems, and also provides some higher-level tuning features.
The TUNEVALID and TUNECONFLICT/TUNECONFLICTS settings were not
implemented. Listed one or two missing features in TUNEVALID,
also (in a previous patch) fixed the references to
features which didn't exist.
This patch also provides a whitelisting mechanism (which is completely
unused) to allow vendors providing prebuilt toolchain components to
restrict tunings to those based on or compatible with a particular ABI.

We have currently no override to detect a recipe being build cross, crosssdk
or for target at times we can use virtclass-native and virtclass-nativesdk to
override stuff in recipes but we dont have way to modify a variables
based on recipe type always.
This patch adds in such an override and in particular makes a target override
class available.
With this change now we can say:
EXTRA_OECONF_class-target = "...."
EXTRA_OECONF_class-native = "..."
EXTRA_OECONF_class-nativesdk = "..."

* TUNE_PKGARCH is not 100% right too, because such SDK image usually has few
machine specific packages included (e.g. base-files, securetty, opkg configs)
but those are not important for SDK users so it's better to have one SDK for

The value of PARALLEL_MAKE shouldn't affect sstate checksums. In general it
doesn't as the value is injected as a task override and the sstate checksum
doesn't track these. That isn't the case for linux-yocto in particular so
adding it the list of variables to ignore is useful.

runqemu can't launch a target image on Fedora 16 64bit or Opensuse 12.1
64bit, this is because runqemu needs the host's libGL.so, which requires
GLIBC_2.14 which is defined in libc.so.6, but our default libc.so.6 is
version 2.13, here is the message from Richard:
The easiest solution would be to change the nativesdk libc to 2.15. I don't
think we plan to do this for the target libc for 1.2 but we could change
nativesdk's version if its well tested

Cleanup the ARM tunings to match the new tunings README file.
The ARM tunings define TUNE_PKGARCH in a way that only one main
arm architecture, i.e. armv6, may be defined at the same time. We
may have to revise these settings in the future, as well as figure
out a way to better differentiate various optimize tunings in the
package arch. (This was not done, to preserve existing behavior!)
Fix a number of minor issues w/ the armv5 tunings where DSP variants
were referenced but not defined.
Fix incorrect armv7 entries in armv7a.
Fix PACKAGE_EXTRA_ARCHS definitions inside of tune-cortexm3 and tune-cortexr4.

We perform a basic cleanup of the IA32 architecture and related
tunings in order to match the rules and descriptions within the
new tuning README file.
A number of small issues were corrected in the "c3" tuning to
bring it inline with the README.

Add a new README that covers the basic items used with various cpu
tunings. The goal is to better help people understand the various
settings and where things should or should not be defined.
Corresponding architecture README files will also be generated to
explain the particulars of architectural tunings.
Also remove the default TUNE_PKGARCH setting in bitbake.conf. This
was done to ensure an error occurs if an invalid tuning is defined.

All PACKAGE_EXTRA_ARCHS for cortexa8, cortexa8t and cortexa8-neon have typo in
referencing tune-armv7at even for non-Thumb modes. Probably a copy/paste error.
That's not the case for recently-added hard-fp tunes.
Same for cortexa9.

Use of FPRs instead of GPRs is incompatible with e500/SPE, so let's be
explicit about the use of GPRs to avoid potential errors. For example, with
the Sourcery G++ toolchain, one can hit: conftest.c:1:0: error: E500 and FPRs
not supported.

armv7 is least common denominator of armv7-a
armv7-m and armv7-r and armv7-m does not support
ARM instructions but only thumb2 instruction set
which means armv7 when chosen will complain if
code is compiled in arm mode which is default
in OE if not specified other wise
if we chose this tuning errors like below pop up
error: target CPU does not support ARM mode
This tuning seems theoretical and base tune
for armv7 would be one of armv7-a, armv7-m or
armv7-r

If DISTRO is not set, FILESPATH becomes littered with directories like
files/${DISTRO} etc. It won't bomb until you try to eval it - i.e.
manipulating FILESPATH directly with .= works fine, but calling e.g.
base_set_filespath() throws this:
ERROR: Failure expanding variable FILESPATH, expression was ${@blah} which
triggered exception SyntaxError: EOL while scanning string literal (FILESPATH,
line 1)

This resolves issues related to pigz-native when installing from sstate that people
have been seeing. It also gives us a way to solve issues like the gzip-native race

Add a soc-family.inc file that can be included in a machine.conf to enable
the use of SOC_FAMILY in MACHINEOVERRIDE, which could be useful to group
multiple machines with the same common base. Some examples can be seen in
meta-ti BSP layer.

Add a pulseaudio DISTRO_FEATURES item and disable pulseaudio support in
phonon within Qt4 if it is not present; otherwise it is a race condition
as to whether it is enabled or disabled or breaks the build.
Note that this adds pulseaudio to DISTRO_FEATURES_BACKFILL thus leaving
existing distro configurations unaffected.

We don't need two files for this. Also this fixes some mutlilib build
issues where we were not able to select the multilib arch to be
ppce5500 or ppc64e5500.

When introducing new items to DISTRO_FEATURES that control functionality
that is already enabled, in order to leave existing distro configuration
unchanged we need a way to "backfill" these new feature items onto the
existing DISTRO_FEATURES value.
This introduces a DISTRO_FEATURES_BACKFILL variable whose items will be
added to the end of DISTRO_FEATURES, unless they also appear in
DISTRO_FEATURES_BACKFILL_CONSIDERED which distros can use in their
configuration to prevent specific items from being added.
Fixes [YOCTO #1946].

its desireable for other layers to be able to append to the list of packages
with 'safe ABI's which are excluded from the sstate signatures.
I can't emphasise enough how careful you need to be with this list, anything
excluded here needs to be things which don't change interface and are consistent
between different machines.

The head file 'libedataserver/e-data-server-module.h' has been moved
to 'libebackend/e-data-server-module.h', just update eds-tools to get
the latest changes for fixing the path of 'e-data-server-module.h'.
Also update its recipe file to reflect it has been converted to git
repo and split all generated binaries to correct packages.

Unfortunately, the CSL ia32 toolchain has non-prefixed binaries in its bindir
(e.g. gcc, ld). To avoid this messing up our build, we avoid adding this
bindir to our PATH, and instead add symlinks to the prefixed binaries to our
staging toolchain bindir.

- Rather than adjusting TARGET_VENDOR, which results in our TARGET_SYS
matching the external toolchain, override TARGET_PREFIX to match external,
and leave TARGET_SYS alone
- Grab the optimized files out of the toolchain if available
- Create a symlink in sysroot to ensure the sysroot layout matches toolchain
expectations (optimized files in a subdir)

These allow the recipe to build again:
- add compilerlibs, g++, libgcc to the provides
- add linux-libc-headers-dev to the packages
- in libc-package, only sed the ldd.bash.in file if it exists, as the external
toolchain is using that class as well
- shift the inherit location of the libc classes, as they were overriding the
recipe's do_install
- use ?= for EXTERNAL_TOOLCHAIN, so the user can set it

This signature generator will allow easier customisation of which task
dependencies get included in the signatures using the code in
lib/oe/sstatesig.py. Compared the the regexp, this function is much
easier to understand and customise.

Use the -nv instead of -q command line option for wget so that if
fetching from a URL that the wget fetcher handles (e.g. http) fails, we
get a possibly useful error message (but it still remains relatively
quiet when the fetch succeeds.)

to prelink MIPS architectures.

* exec.c: Check that a section is larger then 0 bytes when
determining the section to segment mapping. This matches
the behavior of elfutils - readelf. Otherwise an empty
PROGBITS section at the end of a segment will cause a

Changes to BUILD_LDFLAGS are required due to the recent movement of some
libraries from ${libdir} to ${base_libdir}. ${base_libdir} must be now
in the linker search path to avoid build problems of -native packages.

- Modified meta/class/package.bbclass and prserv.bbclass according to
the change in PR service by adding PACKAGE_ARCH into the query tuple.
- Added prexport.bbclass, primport.bbclass to export/import AUTOPR
values from/to PRService.
- Move PR service related common code to lib/oe/prservice.py.
- Supported reading the AUTOPR values from the exported .inc file
instead of reading it from remote PR service.
- Created a new script bitbake-prserv-tool to export/import the AUTOPR
values from/to the PR service.
Typical usage scenario of the export/import is:
1. bitbake-prserv-tool export <file> to export the AUTOPR values from
the current PR service into an exported .inc file.
2. Others may use that exported .inc file(to be included in the
local.conf) to lockdown and reproduce the same AUTOPR when generating
package feeds.
3. Others may "bitbake-prserv-tool import <file>" to import the AUTOPR
values into their own PR service and the AUTOPR values will be
incremented from there.

Recent versions of the GCC reject the -mno-thumb option. In order to prevent
the compiler from generating code for the Thumb instruction set the -marm
switch should be used instead. For details see GNU bug #47930.

Initramfs images don't benefit from usual IMAGE_FSTYPES overrides. The
only sane values for them are "cpio.XXX". If IMAGE_FSTYPES is set to
include 'live', building core-image-minimal-initramfs can result in
build error, if the image is built before the kernel. To stop initramfs
images from responding on IMAGE_FSTYPES settings, but still allow
users/developers to override defaults (e.g. to generate "cpio.lzma"
initramfs), introduce INITRAMFS_FSTYPES variable, by default set to
"cpio.gz".

rpmbuild can not handle the PACKAGE_ARCH of these kinds:
x86_64-x32, core2-64, core2-64-x32
With these kinds of PACKAGE_ARCH the --target parameter of rpmbuild
becomes like: core2-64-x32-poky-linux-gnux32 ; And rpmbuild extracts
%_target (arch) wrongly as core2 generating these kinds of rpms with
incorrect filenames: zip-3.0-r0.core2.rpm
So this commit fixes the issue by making PACKAGE_ARCH like this:
x86_64_x32, core2_64, core2_64_x32
Now --target parameter of rpmbuild becomes like:
core2_64_x32-poky-linux-gnux32 ; And rpmbuild extracts %_target (arch)
correctly as core2_64_x32 generating these kinds of rpms with correct
filenames: zip-3.0-r0.core2_64_x32.rpm

This is a fairly large commit, so I want to step through some of
what this accomplishes:
1. Additional licenses
I've added/modified/corrected some of the common licenses
within OE-core in prep. for a major license audit. Most of these
are in SPDX format. A few, there is no OSI equivalent.
2. Additional SPDX mappings
I've added some additional SPDX mappings to account for removing
some duplicate licenses. (ie GPL-2 and GPL-2.0 were the same)
I've also remapped a few things to more accurately reflect what
they should be pointing at.
Note: Artistic/LGPL/GPL/MPL. Quite a few LICENSE fields list these
licenses. They make no sense and need auditing. In a future commit
I have some fixes to particularly egregious LICENSE fields, but
a full audit should be done. I've listed to obvious candidates at:

3. License manifest
We now have a license manifest generation that occurs in rootfs for
everything BUT .deb. This requires the changes Paul Eggleton has
done to rootfs_* particularly the list_installed_packages function.
The manifest is accurate during a parallel bitbake now (Weee!) and
is prime for my planned SPDX format manifest during the next period.
4. License manifest on image.
We also want the ability to add licenses to the image. This
functionality is also in base-files and will be stripped out in my
next commit. The manifest is not added by default and is a two var
setting in license.conf:
If I want *just* the manifest on the image (small) then I set:
COPY_LIC_MANIFEST = "1"
This copies the manifest to:
/usr/share/common-licenses/license.manifest
If I want the actual PKG license text on the image (much larger)
I need to set both both COPY_LIC_MANIFEST and COPY_LIC_DIRS in
license.conf. This will create:
/usr/share/common-licenses/(package name)/(licenses in LIC_SRC_URI)
Word of warning. This can be larger than wanted depending on image
and is probably ripe for linking licenses, but I ran out of time this
week to get that done.
5. Custom License search path.
We now have the ability to add licenses to the build without touching
common-licenses. This is set via license.conf:
LICENSE_PATH += "/path/to/custom/licenses"
You want to make sure the license is unique. license.bbclass picks the
first license it finds.

We need pseudo to use the rootfs passwd/group files belonging to the
rootfs when building images. This patch ensures that we use the rootfs
files instead of those in the sysroot which can lead to incorrect file
ownership issues.

Machines shouldn't be poking around PREFERRED_PROVIDERS which aren't
machine specific or at least machine safe. Kernels are machine specific
and the xserver is selectable. libx11 and mesa are now really a distro choice
and machine configurations shouldn't be poking around them as it just leads
to corruption, conflicts and confusion.

Based on suggestions from RP
libc-uclibc and libc-glibc overrides are for denoting
system C library in use on the target and not for the
host therefore we make sure that the override only takes
effect for target recipes only.
