Richard Purdie c71d1f446c udev: Effectively revert the move to /sbin
This effectively reverts the changes made in b49ddeb11c
to move udev's libexecdir to sbin. The changes caused too many issues in
other places and were not well enough tested this close to a release.

Rather than use base_libdir, the nonarch version is used to try and give some
chance of multilib not being totally broken in the release.

Laurentiu Palcu ef0e1cc32d busybox: fix mount issue
When the mount command is not given the filesystem type to mount, then
it will try all the known filesystems. However, when a filesystem is not
supported by the kernel, the mount function call will return ENODEV.

The following patch, ecd90bc6aa,
introduced a problem because it bailed out on ENODEV too. Instead it should
have only bailed out on ENOMEDIUM.

Martin Jansa c237e5464a systemd: use AC_CHECK_TOOL instead of AC_PATH_TOOL when checking objcopy, strings, gperf
* with external toolchain I have different HOST_PREFIX and HOST_SYS
AC_PATH_TOOL is using HOST_SYS as prefix and fails to find objcopy
then it tries objcopy without prefix which is found on host, but
that objcopy does not work for arm libs
* with internal toolchain gperf is not prefixed with HOST_PREFIX, but
fallback to "gperf" only finds the one in native sysroot first

Nitin A Kamble 1695345393 initramfs-live-install*: fix the "install" boot option
The install boot option was giving the following error when one tried to
install the live image on a permanent storage of a BSP.

cat: write error Invalid argument
Installation image failed
sh: can't access tty: job control turned off

Further digging into the issue, found out that the install script was trying
to do this:
 cat /proc/mounts > /etc/mtab

And in the base-files recipe the /etc/mtab is made soft link to /proc/mounts.
So the cat command was failing to write on /etc/mtab. As the contents of
the /proc/mounts is already reflected in the /etc/mtab file due to the
symlink-ing, there is no need for this step to recreate /etc/mtab in the
install script. So just removing this unnecessary step, which solves the
install issue of the live images.

Fixes this bug:

Radu Moisan b49ddeb11c udev: Move udevd back to /sbin
Along with v182 upgrade udevd was moved to ${base_libdir}
making scripts like init-live.sh to fail in finding udevd.

We have some problems here since the placing binaries into either
libdir breaks the way our multilib handling works. That code and its
associated sanity tests assume that libdir contains binaries of a
particular architecture and that these are not allowed to overlap.

This is in contrast to the bindirs where conflicts are expected
and handled appropriately.

So whilst upstream may desire this directory layout, it won't work
for OE's usage of it and we need to configure udev differently. The
scripts already have fallback code to handle udev in the two locations
so there is no issue is going back to our previous layout.

Nitin A Kamble e42db9627b psplash_git.bb: fix do_compile by correcting the script path
The recent change in the builddir location is breaking this recipe as
it is trying to run a script (make-image-header.sh) located in sourcedir
from builddir. As the script does not gets to run, the resulting file is
not generated causing error as seen below. This commit fixes the issue, by
providing complete path of the script.

This commit fixes this build error:

ERROR: Error executing a python function in /srv/home/nitin/prj/poky.git/meta/recipes-core/psplash/psplash_git.bb:

Chen Qi f9a92d9534 sysvinit: rc: exit psplash correctly
Previously, psplash didn't go away at system startup.
The root cause is that rc checks the file '/etc/init.d/xserver-nodm' to
determine whether to exit psplash manually. So even if xserver-nodm is not
linked into runlevel 3, psplash doesn't exit.

This patch fixes this problem by letting the rc script check the file
'/etc/rc${runlevel}.d/S??xserver-nodm' to determine whether to exit psplash
manually.

Ross Burton f76d4b3549 udev: move /run volatile entry to udev instead of initscripts
initscripts is generally installed on systemd-using images, but because it
specifies that /run is a symlink to /var/run managed by volatiles it totally
breaks systemd by copying/deleting /run from underneath systemd. Deleting
sockets mid-boot doesn't leave systemd in a happy place.

As this volatile reference of /run was introduced by udev 182, move it's
reference to the udev recipe. This way it will never be present on systemd
images, as systemd manages /run as a tmpfs itself.

Andreas Oberritter aaaafafceb Revert "base-files: add fstab for systemd based systems"
For hybrid systemd/sysvinit builds, only one fstab can be used.
The default fstab used by sysvinit should work fine with systemd.

Since virtually every machine will ship its own fstab in its bsp

on distro features.

Chen Qi 297906d39c populate-volatile.sh: improve the handling of link config items
Previously, if there's a link config item in the config file like

	    l root root 1777 /tmp /var/tmp

and /tmp has existed, the symlink will not be created correctly.

Another example is the /run directory. If /run directory has been
created by some recipe or script before populate-volatile.sh runs,
the symlink of /run to /var/run will not be created correctly.

This patch ensures that the system creates symlinks exactly as the
config file tells it.

Chen Qi bf7a5b449c populate-volatile.sh: add ROOT_DIR variable to support running at rootfs time
For populate-volatile.sh script to run correctly both at rootfs time and
at system boot time, it needs to be aware of which situation it is now in.

We use the ROOT_DIR variable to indicate whether it is run at rootfs time or
not. ROOT_DIR being "/" indicates that this script is run at system boot time,
otherwise, it is run at rootfs time.

Also, we ignore failures when running this script at rootfs time.
For example, if ${ROOT_DIR}/var/dir1 is symlink to /var/volatile/dir1, it's
possible that the link is a dead link. So if we're going to create some file
under ${ROOT_DIR}/var/dir1, it will fail. But the failure does no harm,
because this script will always run at system boot time to set up the correct
files and directories.

Darren Hart 4f4d82c62c install: Look for grub2 files on the initramfs, not rootfs
Fixes [YOCTO #3870] atom-pc - cannot boot image on netbook after install

The problem here is that grub2 is installed but a grub 1 menu.lst is
created at install time. At boot, grub2 doesn't find a grub.cfg file and
drops to the grub shell.

This happens because the installer is looking for 40_custom (a grub2
file) on the rootfs, but grub2 isn't installed on the rootfs. It exists
in the initramfs. Patching the installer to look on the initramfs
resolves the problem.

Note that the problem may have occurred if grub2 used to be installed on
the rootfs but was later removed. In any case, the installer is HORRIBLE
and really needs to be completely redesigned as part of the deployment
effort. For now, this should get the live image installer limping along
again.

Tested on a Toshiba NB-305.

Jason Wessel 1a80329b3f ncurses.inc: Fix display corruption and add fallback for sstate compiled paths
CQID: WIND00402979

Display corruption was occurring on 64 bit hosts using menuconfig for
the kernel and busybox with the ncurses-native or ncurses-nativesdk
because the configure arguments were not sufficient vs the expected
use from the upstream source.

Also changed in this commit is to provide a fallback to the hard
compiled paths for the terminfo and termcap. Eventually this needs to
be fixed another way if we want a truly portable SDK because any SDK
that is relocated or native binaries pulled out of the sstate can end
up referencing terminfo files that no longer are in the same location.
Because the host system has terminfo files that ncurses will happily
use we might as well have a fall back to buy some time for a better
fix, vs having thing just not work occasionally when using sstate.

Jason Wessel eef73b4489 eglibc-nativesdk: Fix buffer overrun with a relocated SDK
When ld-linux-*.so.2 is relocated to a path that is longer than the

Chen Qi db5847dd41 initscripts: let populate-volatile.sh create the /tmp link
Previously, the /tmp link (/tmp -> /var/tmp) was created by the
bootmisc.sh script. So in case of a read-only rootfs, this symlink
would not be created correctly.

The populate-volatile.sh script is intended to handle all directories
and files related to volatile storage, so we should let it create
the /tmp link.

In addition, because of the improments of populate-volatile.sh, the data
loss problem of bug#3404 is also resolved by this patch.

This variable indicates whether the rootfs is intended to be read-only
or not. Changing this value from 'no' to 'yes' on a currently running
system with read-write rootfs and rebooting will give the user a working
system with read-only rootfs.

However, it is not suggested to change its value. Normally, if a read-only
rootfs is required, we should build an image with 'read-only-rootfs' image
feature.

Jack Mitchell bbd280b491 systemd: remove usbutils dependancy
V2:

Dependancy was removed in version 196 according to following systemd commit.

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/systemd/systemd/commit/configure.ac?id=796b06c21b62d13c9021e2fbd9c58a5c6edb2764

V1:

No where in the systemd readme does it specify that usbutils
is a dependancy of systemd. I can only guess that it was added
due to an issue elsewhere in the chain or it was brought in
when udev was merged and the dependancies never checked.

I have build tested this with no issues.

Richard Purdie 3247292683 Split do_packagedata task from do_package
Currently, do_rootfs has a dependency on all the do_package output being present
due to its usage of the pkgdata directories. This means that if you run:

bitbake xxxx-image -c rootfs

you end up having to fetch and unpack all the do_package data which is usually
large and inefficient. It also means rm_work has to leave all the do_package
data lying around so rootfs works.

This patch splits the actual creation of the pkgdata directory off into a separate
task, "packagedata" which happens immediately after do_package. We can then remap
the dependencies so this task is depended upon, not do_package. Sstate can then be
programmed not to require do_package at the appropriate times.

Whilst this patch doesn't do so, it opens the possibility of rm_work wiping
out the do_package output from WORKDIR as long as it also removed the do_package
stamp (both normal and setscene variants) and allowing more space savings
with rm_work which has been regularly requested.

Chen Qi f8a4a74c8c init-live.sh: move /media/xxx over to the real root filesystem
Previously, the /media/xxx which contains the root image was not
moved to be under the real root filesystem. Because of this, the
output of the 'mount' command is somewhat confusing, that is, it
has some mount point that is not even in the filesystem.

Besides, on some machine, it caused the recovery procedure when we
booted it next time.

This patches fixes this issue by moving the /media/xxx over to be
under the real root filesystem.

Enrico Scholz 1cecbacdbe util-linux: moved 'reset' into own subpackage
The 'reset' tool from util-linux is a shell script calling 'tput' which is
provided by 'ncurses'. To avoid a 'util-linux' -> 'ncurses' dependency,
'reset' is put into an own subpackage which can be installed on demand.

Because most (all) systems are using 'busybux' which provides an
alternative 'reset' implementation, this should not cause too much
regressions.

Johan Hovold 632fefd108 udev: fix failed /dev/shm mount
Since commit commit fbec192f6bc4 ("udev: Ensure tmpfs are mounted and
volatile/run exists") all tmpfs-entries in fstab are mounted before udev
starts using mount -a. If /dev/shm is among those entries, that mount
will fail as the mount point has not yet been created:

   Starting udev
mount: mounting tmpfs on /dev/shm failed: No such file or directory
   udevd[474]: starting version 182

Fix by restoring the old way of mounting /dev and mounting the
remaining tmpfs-entries only after /dev/shm has been created.

Also make sure that any errors are supressed for these tmpfs-mounts.
Should any mount point not yet be present, that mount will be retried
later during the boot process.

the patch come from:
http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome/trunk/src/third_party/libxml/src \
/include/libxml/tree.h?r1=56276&r2=149930

libxml2 2.9.0-rc1 and earlier, as used in Google Chrome before 21.0.1180.89,
does not properly support a cast of an unspecified variable during handling
of XSL transforms, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service
or possibly have unknown other impact via a crafted document, related to the
_xmlNs data structure in include/libxml/tree.h.

Richard Purdie 13ecfdb331 packagegroup/allarch: Convert to use allarch class
Currently there is some odd behaviour of the packagegroup class in relation
to sstate since it sets PACKAGE_ARCH = "all" but does not use the allarch class
leading to it being undetected by sstate.

Previously it was not possible to use allarch as the recipe couldn't "undo"
settings made by the allarch class. Since this no longer happens when
PACKAGE_ARCH != all, we can use the allarch class.

This patch also fixes up one case we need to preserve TRANSLATED_TARGET_ARCH
and ensures sstate only assumes allarch when PACKAGE_ARCH is "all".

The mount.sh handler attempts to prevent already-mounted filesystems

We need gettext-minimal-native to be able to install config.rpath and

Phil Blundell 895994afd8 gettext: Remove spurious-looking dependencies on libxml2-native
These were added in aae5021101224344a2b1a3af5becf74291fbbfe5, ostensibly to resolve
some sort of "host contamination" issue. However, that commit contains no information
about what contamination was being observed or how the dependencies help.

gettext-native is being configured --with-included-libxml so it shouldn't be using
libxml2 from either the host or the sysroot, in which case the dependency would seem
to be useless. Using the included copy of libxml2 is in any case preferable to adding
a dependency on libxml2-native because the latter brings quite a large stack of other
dependencies with it.

Colin Walters bf97b1a311 Add packagegroup-core-buildessential
[Not heavily tested, but sent for discussion]

task-core-sdk is too big - for example, I simply don't want to ship tcl, ever =)
Historically distcc caused a large dependency graph explosion because it has
a utility which uses gtk+, although that was fixed.

packagegroup-core-sdk also includes coreutils, which is a bit
confusing; conceptually things dependent on coreutils should pull it
in explicitly, or possibly we just declare coreutils to be in the
minimal build set.

So packagegroup-core-buildessential is intended to be similar to
Debian's "build-essential" package. It's the stuff needed by say 80+%
of components, not worth repeating over and over.

The eglibc core build still has a number of issues with /bin/dash.
Recently found is both sysdeps/unix/make-syscalls.sh and it's output,
which make calls via SHELL do not play well with /bin/dash. By force
make to use /bin/bash via SHELL setting it works correctly.

Currenly known issues are: make-syscalls.sh line with a bad substitution,
which can be corrected by:
     vdso_symver="$(printf '%s\n' ${vdso_symver} | sed 's/\./_/')"

Following that there is an issue with emiting a '\n' through a second
echo and then to the compiler. There maybe more issues beyond that.

Phil Blundell 8bb52d817a eglibc: Remove bogus PACKAGES_DYNAMIC setting
It transpires that eglibc has been setting PACKAGES_DYNAMIC = "libc6*" for
some time. However, this is bogus for at least two reasons:

1. Bitbake interprets PACKAGES_DYNAMIC as a regex, not a glob, so this will
match against any package whose name starts "libc" plus zero or more sixes.
This is particularly toxic because the nativesdk variant picks up the same
value and will, consequently, start trying to build itself at the slightest
excuse.

2. eglibc doesn't actually build any packages named "libc6<anything>", other
than the ones that are named in PACKAGES anyway, so the dynamic provider
declaration is in any case useless.

Simply deleting the line is not sufficient since then we get the default
value from bitbake.conf which causes eglibc.bb to fight with eglibc-locale.bb.
So instead we must set it to the empty string for good results.

Andrei Gherzan 42d91a7db4 Replace "echo -e" with "printf" to have the same behavior in dash or bash
oe-core removed the prerequisite to have sh as bash. POSIX doesn't define
any options and furthermore allows 'echo -e' to be the default behavior.
This means that in dash 'echo -e' will actually print '-e' and interpret
backslashes by default. We use instead 'printf' builtin command with or
without '\n' to simulate 'echo -e' or 'echo -n'.
'printf' needs format while 'echo' can be used without any arguments. So
'echo >' was replaced by 'printf "" >'.
'echo' without '-n' flag adds a new line by default so to keep the same
behavior of two new lines while using 'echo "\n"', 'printf "\n\n"' is
used.

Phil Blundell c460737a30 eglibc: Restore ${PN} to before ${PN}-dev in PACKAGES
Commit 13544fbc6217fee1731a6da1e2cf94901a500842 changed the ordering
of PACKAGES so that ${PN}-dev came before ${PN}. However, this caused
the FILES matching to go wrong if ${libdir} == ${base_libdir}. Fix this
by moving ${PN} ahead of ${PN}-dev once again.

Matthew McClintock bb330fdc00 sysvinit-inittab_2.88dsf.bb: only run serial checks at boot if we have items to check
Right now, we delay running the serial console checks to we boot up. This causes

Paul Eggleton 2a21c83300 packagegroup-core-console: remove
This provides one package group, packagegroup-core-apps-console, which
is usually brought in by adding "apps-console-core" to IMAGE_FEATURES.
Aside from the naming inconsistencies, this is a group of mostly
unrelated packages, none of which are actually "apps". Handling each
one:

* dbus: should mostly be brought in by package runtime dependencies
* avahi-daemon: if you are using packagegroup-base (as all images that
inherit from core-image do) this is brought in by having "zeroconf" in
  DISTRO_FEATURES.
* portmap: not very useful by itself; should be brought in by selecting
  NFS server/client through other means.
* psplash (or whatever SPLASH is set to): this has been changed to be
an explicit item "splash" in IMAGE_FEATURES. Since this is a fairly
fundamental feature, a piece of code has been added to automatically
handle this for images still using apps-console-core (and show a
  warning).

Paul Eggleton 8eba44660e packagegroup-core-x11*: adjust X11 package groups
Now the Sato pieces have been moved out, rebase packagegroup-core-x11 on
packagegroup-x11-mini but using the structure/contents of meta-oe's
task-x11 so that it can replace that; rename packagegroup-core-x11-mini

packagegroup-core-x11, and move both of these recipes under
recipes-graphics.

x11-mini is renamed to x11-base as it's what people should build on top
of and since x11-mini is newer, the corresponding IMAGE_FEATURES item is
less likely to be used in existing user recipes.

As discussed on the mailing lists, using a suffix to package names is
hard and has lead to many recipes having to do PKGSUFFIX games. Its
looking extremely hard to scale nativesdk much further without hacking
many recipes.

By comparison, using a prefix like multilib does works much better and
doesn't involve "hacking" as many recipes. This change converts nativesdk
to use a prefix using the existing multilib infrastructure.

Ross Burton cfb502cc2b glib-2.0: don't disable all debugging functionality
GLib will use "minimal" debugging on non-development builds and the extra safety
net and ability to debug at all is totally worth the small performance cost.

If someone has a need for every ounce of performance, a simple .bbappend can
restore this option.

Richard Purdie 8354db9258 udev: Drop hid2hci, its provided by bluez4 now
Our bluez4 recipe provides hid2hci now. udev removes this as of version 169,
we might as well remove it now to stop conflicts over the file in both
target file systems and the build sysroots.
