* when enabled, configure check for "fonts" directory existence in following directories:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11 /usr/X11/lib/X11 /usr/lib/X11
on _host_ system and if it exists it adds <dir> element to
/etc/fonts/fonts.conf
* update_font_cache postinst will then fail if host system has e.g.

libsdl2 was using foo.o in Makefile dependencies but if libtool is
being used then those are the statically linked intermediate files.
When static libraries are globally disabled they won't be generated by
libtool so the build fails.
Instead, use the libtool intermediate wrapper .lo files so the build
succeeds.

Instead of patching in a whole new build system using autotools, use the
makefile-based system in upstream with careful variable assignments so that it
cross-compiles correctly. One small patch was required to stop an unavoidable
strip.
Upstream does have a cmake-based build but it's not used or supported by the
maintainer, and is quite buggy (for example: doesn't version the libraries,
fails to link to required libraries).

Update LICENSE.TXT hash due to minor rewording to clarify licensing
of fthash.c and fthash.h files. No changes to overall licensing.
Other changes from the upstream changelog:
I. IMPORTANT CHANGES
- Khmer, Myanmar, Bengali, and Kannada script support has been
added to the auto-hinter.
II. MISCELLANEOUS
- Better support of Indic scripts like Devanagari by using a
top-to-bottom hinting flow.
- All FreeType macros starting with two underscores have been
renamed to avoid a violation of both the C and C++ standards.
Example: Header macros of the form `__FOO_H__' are now called
`FOO_H_'. In most cases, this should be completely transparent
to the user. The exception to this is `__FTERRORS_H__', which
must be sometimes undefined by the user to get FreeType error
strings: Both this form and the new `FTERRORS_H_' macro are
accepted for backwards compatibility.
- Minor improvements mainly to the Type 1 driver.
- The new CFF engine now supports all Type 2 operators except
`random'.
- The macro `_STANDALONE_', used for compiling the B/W and smooth
rasterizers as stand-alone modules, has been renamed to
`STANDALONE_', since macro names starting with an underscore and
followed by an uppercase letter are reserved in both C and C++.
- Function `FT_Library_SetLcdFilterWeights' now also activates
custom LCD filter weights (instead of just adjusting them).
- Support for `unpatented hinting' has been completely removed:
Consequently, the two functions `FT_Face_CheckTrueTypePatents'
and `FT_Face_SetUnpatentedHinting' now return always false,
doing nothing.
- The `ftgamma' demo program has been modernized; the gamma grid
display has been moved from `ftview' to this program.
- It is now possible to cycle through the available LCD fitlering
modes.

Add a few ${S} and ${B} to make out of tree builds work, and stop using
autotools-brokensep. Annoyingly we still need to use a custom do_configure so
add a comment explaining why so someone else doesn't spend 30 minutes trying to
make it work.
Whilst here add a small patch so we don't need to tell the build where libtool
is, and remove class-native do_configure as it doesn't appear to be required
anymore.
At this point I started to get carried away.
The do_compile_prepend is redundant now that configure is being told what
compiler to use for build tools, so remove that.
Instead of using the integrated zlib fork, add a PACKAGECONFIG to use the zlib
we build and enable that by default. Also add a disabled PACKAGECONFIG for
bzip2 support.

xcb-proto had a dependency on python-native as it builds and installs a Python
module, but xcb-proto is very low in the build to force a dependency on
python-native.
As it turns out libxcb simply asks pkg-config for the full path to the module
xcb-proto installed and uses it directly so there is no need to build
python-native. Instead replace AM_PATH_PYTHON with two explicit variable
definitions (need to set PYTHON for automake's install logic).
Also remove the dependency on xcb-proto-native as libxcb uses the data files and
tooling from the target sysroot, and patching it to use the native sysroot adds
complication for no good reason.

Although the gold linker problems with DirectFB have only so far been
observed with armv7a, they could potentially affect future arm targets
too. Since there's no particular downside to using the bfd linker for
DirectFB, apply the workaround to all arm targets.

Neon support is optional in armv7a so the _armv7a over-ride is not
the best way to determine whether or not the target supports neon.
Since pixman will always use neon in preference to 'simd' (ie VFPv2)
if it can, it's safe to disable the simd routines if the target is
known to support neon.

Use PACKAGECONFIG instead of using logic in DEPENDS and EXTRA_OECONF, adding new
options for PulseAudio, tslib, DirectFB, OpenGL and X11. Pass
--disable-x11-shared so that it links to the X libraries instead of using
dlopen().
Disable tslib by default as the kernel event input subsystem is generally used.

- Fix badly-broken fallback shaper that affected terminology.
https://github.com/behdad/harfbuzz/issues/187
- Fix y_scaling in Graphite shaper.
- API changes:
* An unset glyph_h_origin() function in font-funcs now (sensibly)
implies horizontal origin at 0,0. Ie, the nil callback returns
true instead of false. As such, implementations that have a
glyph_h_origin() that simply returns true, can remove that function
with HarfBuzz >= 1.1.2. This results in a tiny speedup.

When building mesa without X11 enabled, and disabling dri package config,
the enforced "--enable-gbm" fails building mesa, because this feature
requires "--enable-dri", too - which has been disabled by package config.
Consequently, when gbm requires dri, --disable-dri causes in --disable-gbm,
which makes explicit --disable-gbm in case of --disable-dri redundant.

gettext-0.16.1: kill target m4 macros from sysroot
This is aim for using gettext-native's macros(gettext-native-0.19.4),
but when we set:
PREFERRED_VERSION_gettext = "0.16.1"
And build the recipes like pcmanfm, we would get errors when
do_configure:
configure:5164: error: possibly undefined macro: AM_NLS
This is because autotools_copy_aclocals doesn't copy the native macros
for target unless they're direct dependencies.
Add gettext-native to DEPENDS will fix the problem.

see failures due to dependency problems. The work in resolving this was

Rather than code the gtk/gtk+ specific distro features into each recipe,

A mix of a ~1 month old (working) image and the failing image led me
to determine /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so was bad.
However nothing changed the parent package xf86-video-intel in
yocto for months.
So brute force bisecting yocto leads to the above commit. Inserting
libdrm as git and then bisecting the 2.4.59 --> 2.4.62 uprev content
leads to libdrm commit 8576527cfacaf42af8316e1030c192193e94225a
("intel: Merge latest i915_drm.h") -- specifically, the part of that
commit that adds __u64 flags to drm_i915_gem_mmap lands in our sysroot
and is used by the compile of xf86-video-intel.
With the specific trigger finally pinpointed, the final leap was to
correlate that trigger to the upstream xf86-video-intel commit that
accounts for the fallout of this libdrm header change, that we did
not yet have here. Fun times. Hopefully this complete description
here will ensure nobody else has to retrace these steps again.

* commit a5ebdb6ad8e4f94ac819275d55575230e057e4ae
Author: Valentin Popa <valentin.popa@intel.com>
Date: Tue Feb 18 13:32:16 2014 +0200
Subject: mesa: upgrade to 9.2.5
introduced this do_install_append, but doesn't explain why it doesn't
respect MESA_EGL_NO_X11_HEADERS flag anymore.
Not respecting MESA_EGL_NO_X11_HEADERS breaks any build which is using
qtdeclarative+egl in distribution which has x11 in mesa PACKAGECONFIG
(e.g. my bitbake world builds).
The problem is that qtdeclarative is using "None" symbol in
QSGTexture::Filtering enum, it's possible to rename it in qtdeclarative,
but it's quite invasive and changes qtdeclarative public APIs, see:
31aa85787a
so it was rejected by upstream and I don't want to maintain it in
meta-qt5 - changing public API in OE build is even worse than if upstream
does it.
* This change returns MESA_EGL_NO_X11_HEADERS flag so it's relatively
easy to resolve this conflict in such setups by preventing Xlib.h
inclusion.

DRI2 is more abstract than the original DRI and isn't tied to OpenGL or any
other rendering system, and as such is being used by more than OpenGL support in
xserver. In particular, the new modesettings driver uses DRI2 to accelerate
drawing, so enable DRI2 by default.
This was spotted because the "nodistro" DISTRO doesn't enable OpenGL, so xserver
failed to build as dri2proto wasn't built.

Updated x11-server packages fix security vulnerability:
Olivier Fourdan from Red Hat has discovered a protocol handling issue in
the way the X server code base handles the XkbSetGeometry request, where
the server trusts the client to send valid string lengths. A malicious
client with string lengths exceeding the request length can cause the server
to copy adjacent memory data into the XKB structs. This data is then
available to the client via the XkbGetGeometry request. This can lead to
information disclosure issues, as well as possibly a denial of service if a
similar request can cause the server to crash (CVE-2015-0255).

The xorg font builds use `pkg-config --variable=mapdir fontutil` to
locate encoding maps. This variable ought to be sysroot-relative, but
neither pkg-config nor font-util nor the fonts themselves provide any
facility to add the sysroot back in.
We're presently adding the sysroot by by twiddling MAPFILES_PATH in
configure.ac. This is broken; it's actually defined in aclocal.m4,
because the definition is provided by fontutil.m4. Another (more
speculative) criticism is that it also hardcodes a build-specific
absolute path into builds which might (incorrectly) encode it into
target-installable packages.
A somewhat more robust, focused, and clear solution is to override
UTIL_DIR on the make command line. (UTIL_DIR, not MAPFILES_PATH, is what
is actually referenced in the build.)

MAPFILES_PATH is a configuration variable that is used by packages using
font-util, which tells those packages how to compute it in fontutil.m4.
Presently, we're manually twiddling things so that MAPFILES_PATH will
consult the native sysroot, when building under *any* architecture.
This complicates building other packages immensely, and also generates
broken on-target packages, because the contents of font-util-dev will
reference the native sysroot on the build machine (!).
We don't even need to twiddle MAPFILES_PATH anymore so just delete it.
This code also had a path bug (referencing /usr/lib/pkg-config instead
of /usr/lib/pkgconfig) which is also fixed by deletion.

font-util installs encoding maps into /usr/share/fonts/X11. This path
may not exist on the host (many distros install these into
/usr/share/fonts/util) so they must exist in the sysroot in order for
e.g. `pkg-config --variable=mapdir fontutil` to work correctly. However,
currently /usr/share/fonts is explicitly not installed into sysroots, so
the encoding maps were not getting found.
Fix this by explicitly staging ${datadir}/fonts/ into the sysroot.

This patch is to solve the following circular dependency problem.
systemd -> dbus -> libsm -> e2fsprogs -> util-linux -> systemd
libsm doesn't have any dependency on e2fsprogs. It might be some dependency
on util-linux's libuuid, controlled by configure options. So e2fsprogs should
be removed from the DEPENDS variable.
Ideally, we should add a PACKAGECONFIG for 'libuuid' for libsm. However, if
libsm depends on util-linux, we would have the circular dependency described
above. That's why this patch explicitly set '--without-libuuid' in EXTRA_OECONF.
libsm would still be working well because it would fall back to an internal
algorithm to do the uuid stuff.

Without a dm to handle the session management systemd-logind can make it
difficult for X to gain ownership of devices and behave properly.
Since X seems to work without enabling systemd-logind, always disable it for
now, and we can revisit it if we ever want to try to take advantage of
multi-user sessions/seats.

Upstream has reworked installed-tests, use them for ptest.
Default output format for tests is not TAP, add patch to generate TAP output.
Run tests with gnome-desktop-testing-runner, which understands TAP output.
Tested on nuc with core-image-clutter and core-image-weston.
Reminder that for "pure" wayland (e.g. core-image-weston) you need to "export CLUTTER_BACKEND = wayland" to get past setting the DISPLAY variable expected for X11 backend.

PKG_CONFIG_PATH always defaults to /usr/lib/pkgconfig, and the host
/usr/lib/pkgconfig is always checked as a fallback; however,
PKG_CONFIG_PATH is currently (incorrectly) set to /usr/lib/pkg-config in
the sysroot, which doesn't exist. On host distros where the font
encoding maps are stored under a different path than OE, this will break
font builds, because ucs2any will attempt to read the sysroot's encoding
maps with the host paths.

In a GPLv3-free build we have two different versions of gettext in sysroot due
to GPLv3 restrictions. In this case we need gettext-native too so we can have
the needed macros and avoid errors like:
"error: possibly undefined macro: AM_GNU_GETTEXT"
The needed dependency is added by gettext class which is prefered because it
takes care of NLS flags too.
