Someone asked yesterday, "is there a good reason why we can't just put these
modules in Asterisk?". After a brief discussion, as long as the modules are
clearly set aside in their own directory and not enabled by default, it is
perfectly fine.
For more information about why a module goes in addons, see README-addons.txt.
chan_ooh323 does not currently compile as it is behind some trunk API updates.
However, it will not build by default, so it should be okay for now.

The last changes to ast_gcc_attribute.m4 caused some problems checking for
various attributes, because the scope of the symbol the attribute is applied

This patch provides a new implementation of the optional API support defined
in asterisk/optional_api.h; this new version provides solves compatibility
issues with the use of linker version scripts for suppressing global symbols.
In addition, there is now a functional (and tested!) implementation for Mac OS/X,
so module writers no longer need to use special tests before calling optional
API functions. All future implementations must provide these same semantics,
so that module writers can rely on them.

This commit add Calendaring support to Asterisk for iCalendar, CalDAV, and MS
Exchange calendars. Exchange support has only been tested on Exchange Server 2k3
and does not support forms-based authentication at this time (patches *very*
welcome). Exchange support is also currently missing the ability to return a
list of a meting's attendees (again, patches are very, very welcome).
Features include:
Querying a calendar for events over a specific time range
Checking a calendar's busy status via the dialplan
Writing calendar events via the dialplan (CalDAV and Exchange only)
Handling calendar event notifications through the dialplan

This is the companion commit to libpri r732. Service messages are now supported
for switch types 4ess/5ess. A new option service_message_support has been added
to chan_dahdi.conf and is noted in the sample config file. The service message
support is turned off by default. The current implementation relies on AstDB
to keep track of channel state, which allows the statuses to be preserved
across Asterisk restarts. Below is a description of the storage format.
The state and reason for the service state are in the form <state>:<reason>,
where:
<state> ::= { 'O' } // 'O' – Out Of Service
<reason> ::= { '0' | '1' | '2' | '3' }, where:
'0' – No reason (backwards compatibility)
'1' – NEAR END
'2' – FAR END
'3' – both NEAR and FAR END
The new CLI commands to handle channel service state are:
pri service disable channel <chan>
pri service enable channel <chan>

Fix cases where the internal poll() was not being used when it needed to be.
We have seen a number of problems caused by poll() not working properly on
Mac OSX. If you search around, you'll find a number of references to using
select() instead of poll() to work around these issues. In Asterisk, we've
had poll.c which implements poll() using select() internally. However, we
were still getting reports of problems.
vadim investigated a bit and realized that at least on his system, even
though we were compiling in poll.o, the system poll() was still being used.
So, the primary purpose of this patch is to ensure that we're using the
internal poll() when we want it to be used.
The changes are:
1) Remove logic for when internal poll should be used from the Makefile.
Instead, put it in the configure script. The logic in the configure
script is the same as it was in the Makefile. Ideally, we would have
a functionality test for the problem, but that's not actually possible,
since we would have to be able to run an application on the _target_
system to test poll() behavior.
2) Always include poll.o in the build, but it will be empty if AST_POLL_COMPAT
is not defined.
3) Change uses of poll() throughout the source tree to ast_poll(). I feel
that it is good practice to give the API call a new name when we are
changing its behavior and not using the system version directly in all cases.
So, normally, ast_poll() is just redefined to poll(). On systems where
AST_POLL_COMPAT is defined, ast_poll() is redefined to ast_internal_poll().
4) Change poll() in main/poll.c to be ast_internal_poll().
It's worth noting that any code that still uses poll() directly will work fine
(if they worked fine before). So, for example, out of tree modules that are
using poll() will not stop working or anything. However, for modules to work
properly on Mac OSX, ast_poll() needs to be used.

This commit introduces official support for R2 signaling in chan_dahdi. The
modifications to chan_dahdi, and the supporting library, LibOpenR2, were both
written by Moises Silva.
Many users are using this code, or a variant of it, in Asterisk 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6
in Brazil, México and Argentina. An unknown number of users (but at least 1)
are using it in each of the following countries: Colombia, Nepal, Thailand,
Venezuela, Perú, and probably others.
To use this code, LibOpenR2 must be installed from http://www.libopenr2.org/.
Information about configuration can be found in configs/chan_dahdi.conf.sample.
The code committed is the most up to date version, which was being maintained
in svn/asterisk/team/moy/mfcr2/.
I would also like to include a Thank You to the many others that tested this
code beyond those listed in this commit message. These are the names that I
could find in the mantis issue.

Several changes in PTLib have occurred requiring build time detection. Changes
accounted for include the library name change, config option change, install
location change, and a boolean type change which is handled by ast_ptlib.h.
Also, the sed check has been modified to properly work with autoconf >= 2.62.

This provides a new timing interface. In order to use it,
you must be running a Linux with a kernel version of
2.6.25 or newer and glibc 2.8 or newer.
This timing interface is a good alternative if a timing
source is necessary (e.g. for IAX trunking) but DAHDI is
otherwise unnecessary for the system.
For now, this commit contains the actual work done in the
res_timing_timerfd branch. There are no notices in the README
or CHANGES files yet, but they will be added in my next commit.
The timing API of Asterisk also needs to have a bit of work done
with regards to choosing which timing interface to use. This commit
makes the choice a build-time decision, by only allowing one of
the timer interfaces to be chosen in menuselect. It would be preferable
if the choice could be made at run-time, however. The preferred timing
interface could be loaded and tested, and if it does not work, choice
number two may be used instead. That sort of thing. That is beyond
the scope of work in this branch though.

had its own implementation of poll(2) which
just used the input arguments to call select(2).
In 1.4, this internal implementation was used
for Darwin systems. This was removed in Asterisk
trunk at some point, but it seems as though this
was not the right move to make.
On Mac OS X, it appears as though the poll used
to gather CLI input does not respond properly
when connecting via a remote Asterisk console.
Reverting to the use of Asterisk's poll fixed
the issue.
Also, there is now an option for the configure
script, --enable-internal-poll, which will allow
for anyone to use Asterisk's internal poll
implementation in case they suspect that their
system's poll implementation is buggy.

When we don't explicitly pass a path to the --with-tds configure option, we
may end up finding tds.h in /usr/local/include instead of /usr/include. If
this happens, the grep that looks for the version (from tdsver.h) will fail

Final round of changes for configure script logic for IMAP
Now if a directory is specified, then we will search that directory for
a source installation of the IMAP toolkit. If none is found, then we will
use that directory as the basis for detecting a package installation of
the IMAP c-client. If that check fails, then configure will fail.

rizzo brought up some issues related to the way that the metadata required
for menuselect and the rest of the build system is extracted from the source
files. Since I had a few hours to kill on an airplane today, I decided to
improve this situation... so now the system caches the extracted metadata
and uses it to build the menuselect 'tree' as much as it can. The result
of this is that when a single source file is changed, only the metadata for
that file needs to be extracted again, and the rest is used from the cache
files. I also reduced the number of forked processes required to do the
metadata extraction; it was actually possible to do most of what we needed
in the Makefiles themselves without using any shell scripts at all! On my
laptop, these changes resulted in an 80% decrease in the time required
for the 'menuselect.makeopts' automatic check to occur after editing a single
source file.
While doing this work I also cleaned up a few minor things in the Makefiles,
adding a check for 'awk' to the configure script and changed all remaining
places we use 'grep' or 'awk' to use the ones found by the configure script,
and changed the 'prep_tarball' script to build the menuselect metadata so
that tarballs of Asterisk will include it and won't require the user to
wait while it is extracted after unpacking.

Use res_ndestroy on systems that have it. Otherwise, use res_nclose.
This prevents a memleak on NetBSD - and possibly others.

Update the configure script to check for a required function that is not present
in the 1.2 version of libpri. This will prevent the configure script from thinking
that it has compatible libpri support for Asterisk 1.4, when it actually does not
because the installed version is from 1.2.

*must* write the file to the FILE *, and not the raw fd. Otherwise, it breaks
TLS support.

Handle transferring large files from the built-in http server. Previously, the
code attempted to malloc a block as large as the file itself. Now it uses the
sendfile() system call so that the file isn't copied into userspace at all if
it is available. Otherwise, it just uses a read/write of small chunks at a time.

To prevent 92138749238754 more reports of "I have unixodbc installed, but
still can't build *_odbc.so!", check for ltdl directly, instead of just listing
it as another library to include in the unixodbc check in the configure script.
This also makes ltdl show up as a dependency in menuselect so people know what
to go install. (related to issue #9989, patch by me)

Change the configure script to build a test program against libcurl to make
sure the results from curl-config can be used to compile successfully. This is
intended to help prevent a situation where you are cross compiling, and the
configure script finds the curl library installed on the host.

To be able to achieve the things that we would like to achieve with the
Asterisk GUI project, we need a fully functional HTTP interface with access
to the Asterisk manager interface. One of the things that was intended to be
a part of this system, but was never actually implemented, was the ability for
the GUI to be able to upload files to Asterisk. So, this commit adds this in
the most minimally invasive way that we could come up with.
A lot of work on minimime was done by Steve Murphy. He fixed a lot of bugs in
the parser, and updated it to be thread-safe. The ability to check
permissions of active manager sessions was added by Dwayne Hubbard. Then,
hacking this all together and do doing the modifications necessary to the HTTP
interface was done by me.

Merge changes from svn/asterisk/team/russell/LaTeX_docs.
* Convert most of the doc directory into a single LaTeX formatted document
so that we can generate a PDF, HTML, or other formats from this
information.
* Add a CLI command to dump the application documentation into LaTeX format
which will only be include if the configure script is run with
--enable-dev-mode.
* The PDF turned out to be close to 1 MB, so it is not included. However, you
can simply run "make asterisk.pdf" to generate it yourself. We may include
it in release tarballs or have automatically generated ones on the web site,
but that has yet to be decided.

* Add new module, cdr_sqlite3_custom which allows logging custom CDRs into a
SQLite3 database. (issue #7149, alerios)
* Add new module, res_config_sqlite, which adds realtime database configuration
support for SQLite version 2. I decided that this was ok since we didn't have
any realtime support for version 3. If someone ports this to version 3, then
version 2 support can be removed or marked deprecated.

* Mark cdr_sqlite as deprecated in favor of cdr_sqlite3_custom.
Also, note that there were other modules on the bug tracker that did not make
the cut because they provided some duplicated functionality. Those are:

When we are checking for a system installed version of libgsm, we need to check
for gsm.h as well. Furthermore, when checking for this header, it may be
located in a gsm/ sub directory, so check for that, as well.

do not work on FreeBSD - presumably they depend on some
auto* feature that is not installed by default.
I am not sure on what is a proper fix. In my local copy
i simply comment them out.
The AST_PROG_LD is a long standing isse, there were attempts
to fix it in the past but probably not enough has been copied
to acinclude.m4, and i had forgotten about it because i
commented out this call in configure.ac long ago
