George Joseph 577632dec9 astobj2: Additional refactoring to push impl specific code down into the impls.
Move some implementation specific code from astobj2_container.c into
astobj2_hash.c and astobj2_rbtree.c. This completely removes the need for
astobj2_container to switch on RTTI and it no longer has any knowledge of
the implementation details.

Also adds AO2_DEBUG as a new compile option in menuselect which controls
astobj2 debugging independently of AST_DEVMODE and REF_DEBUG.

Matthew Jordan 4f30c7e91f main/astobj2: Make REF_DEBUG a menuselect item; improve REF_DEBUG output
This patch does the following:
(1) It makes REF_DEBUG a meneselect item. Enabling REF_DEBUG now enables
    REF_DEBUG globally throughout Asterisk.
(2) The ref debug log file is now created in the AST_LOG_DIR directory.
Every run will now blow away the previous run (as large ref files
sometimes caused issues). We now also no longer open/close the file
on each write, instead relying on fflush to make sure data gets written
to the file (in case the ao2 call being performed is about to cause a
    crash)
(3) It goes with a comma delineated format for the ref debug file. This
makes parsing much easier. This also now includes the thread ID of the
    thread that caused ref change.
(4) A new python script instead for refcounting has been added in the
    contrib/scripts folder.
(5) The old refcounter implementation in utils/ has been removed.

David M. Lee 9bed50db41 optional_api: Fix linking problems between modules that export global symbols
With the new work in Asterisk 12, there are some uses of the
optional_api that are prone to failure. The details are rather involved,
and captured on [the wiki][1].

This patch addresses the issue by removing almost all of the magic from
the optional API implementation. Instead of relying on weak symbol
resolution, a new optional_api.c module was added to Asterisk core.

For modules providing an optional API, the pointer to the implementation
function is registered with the core. For modules that use an optional
API, a pointer to a stub function, along with a optional_ref function
pointer are registered with the core. The optional_ref function pointers
is set to the implementation function when it's provided, or the stub
function when it's now.

Since the implementation no longer relies on magic, it is now supported
on all platforms. In the spirit of choice, an OPTIONAL_API flag was
added, so we can disable the optional_api if needed (maybe it's buggy on
some bizarre platform I haven't tested on)

The AST_OPTIONAL_API*() macros themselves remained unchanged, so
existing code could remain unchanged. But to help with debugging the
optional_api, the patch limits the #include of optional API's to just
the modules using the API. This also reduces resource waste maintaining
optional_ref pointers that aren't used.

Other changes made as a part of this patch:
 * The stubs for http_websocket that wrap system calls set errno to
   ENOSYS.

 * res_http_websocket now properly increments module use count.

 * In loader.c, the while() wrappers around dlclose() were removed. The
while(!dlclose()) is actually an anti-pattern, which can lead to
infinite loops if the module you're attempting to unload exports a
symbol that was directly linked to.

 * The special handling of nonoptreq on systems without weak symbol
support was removed, since we no longer rely on weak symbols for
   optional_api.

A GCC bug[1] can, in some cases, pop up an unsuppressible pedwarn when
using a static inline standard library function from a non-static

This normally doesn't show up, but can occur if you're running an

This provides a JSON API by pulling in and wrapping the Jansson JSON
library[1]. The Asterisk API basically mirrors the Jansson
functionality, with a few minor tweaks.

 * Some names have been asteriskified to protect the innocent.
 * Jansson provides both reference-stealing and reference-borrowing
versions of several API's. The Asterisk API is exclusively
reference-stealing for operations that put elements into arrays and
   objects.
 * No support for doubles, since we usually don't need that.
 * Coming along for the ride is the ast_test_validate macro, which made
the unit tests much easier to write.

Richard Mudgett b0c3d288f2 build_tools: Allow Asterisk to report git SHAs in version string.
Make git more attractive for managing work-in-progress. Especially
convenient when a potential patch set needs to be tested on multiple
platforms since one can use git to keep all the test environments in sync
independent of a subversion server.

Now the Asterisk version will show the exact git SHA5 that was used when
building (still appended by "M" if there are local modifications) from a
git clone of the Asterisk repository so the developer can more easily know
what is actually under test.

You will now get this:

  $ asterisk -V
  Asterisk GIT-1698298

Instead of this:

  $ asterisk -V
  Asterisk UNKNOWN__and_probably_unsupported

This has zero impact for those not using git with the exception of an
extra test in the configure script to gather git's path. This is
necessary to prevent "sudo make install" from failing since git may not be
in the path in make's shell environment.

Matthew Jordan 82a7409c15 Add AMI event documentation
This patch adds the core changes necessary to support AMI event documentation
in the source files of Asterisk, and adds documentation to those AMI events
defined in the core application modules. Event documentation is built from
the source by two new python scripts, located in build_tools:
get_documentation.py and post_process_documentation.py.

The get_documentation.py script mirrors the actions of the existing AWK
get_documentation scripts, except that it will scan the entirety of a source
file for Asterisk documentation. Upon encountering it, if the documentation
happens to be an AMI event, it will attempt to extract information about the
event directly from the manager event macro calls that raise the event. The
post_process_documentation.py script combines manager event instances that
are the same event but documented in multiple source files. It generates
the final core-[lang].xml file.

As this process can take longer to complete than a typical 'make all', it
is only performed if a new make target, 'full', is chosen.

Matthew Jordan d197f69107 Add feature modifier to versions produced from branches
Certain branches, such as Certified Asterisk, may have a modifier added to
them that specifies the features available in that branch. For branches, this
modifier is expected to be reflected in the location of the branch in
subversion. For example, a subversion of URL of /certified/branches/1.8.11
would have a feature modifier of 'certified'. This is slightly different then
how features are determined for tags, where the feature is part of the actual
tag name, e.g., "10.5.0-digiumphones".

In keeping with the nomenclature used for tags, the feature specifier for
branches is translated and placed after the revision numbers. For the example
given previously, this would result in a branch version of
"Asterisk SVN-branch-1.8.11-cert-rXXXXXX".

Kevin P. Fleming 92ef8a6fe1 Address OpenSSL initialization issues when using third-party libraries.
When Asterisk is used with various third-party libraries (CURL, PostgresSQL,
many others) that have the ability themselves to use OpenSSL, it is possible
for conflicts to arise in how the OpenSSL libraries are initialized and
shutdown. This patch addresses these conflicts by 'wrapping' the important
functions from the OpenSSL libraries in a new shared library that is part
of Asterisk itself, and is loaded in such a way as to ensure that *all*
calls to these functions will be dispatched through the Asterisk wrapper
functions, not the native functions.

This new library is optional, but enabled by default. See the CHANGES file
for documentation on how to disable it.

Along the way, this patch also makes a few other minor changes:

* Changes MODULES_DIR to ASTMODDIR throughout the build system, in order to
more closely match what is used during run-time configuration.

* Corrects some errors in the configure script where AC_CHECK_TOOLS was used
  instead of AC_PATH_PROG.

* Adds a new variable for linker flags in the build system (DYLINK), used for
producing true shared libraries (as opposed to the dynamically loadable
modules that the build system produces for 'regular' Asterisk modules).

* Moves the Makefile bits that handle installation and uninstallation of the
main Asterisk binary into main/Makefile from the top-level Makefile.

* Moves a couple of useful preprocessor macros from optional_api.h to
  asterisk.h.

Kevin P. Fleming 9ee8a74461 Remove "asterisk/version.h" in favor of "asterisk/ast_version.h".
A long time ago, in a land far far away, we added "asterisk/ast_version.h",
which provides the ast_get_version() and ast_get_version_num() functions. These
were added so that modules that needed the version information for the Asterisk
instance they were loaded in could actually get it (as opposed the version that
they were compiled against). We changed everything in the tree to use the
new mechanism (although later main/test.c was added using the old method).
However, the old mechanism was never removed, and as a result, new code is
still trying to use it.

This commit removes asterisk/version.h and replaces it with a header that
will generate a compile-time error if you try to use it (the error message
tells you which header you should use instead). It also removes the Makefile
and build_tools bits that generated the file, and it updates main/test.c to
use the 'proper' method of getting the Asterisk version information.

This is an API change and thus is being committed for trunk only, but it's
a fairly minor one and definitely improves the situation for out-of-tree
modules.

Kevin P. Fleming c292e39cdc Change the internal name of the menuselect options that are used to control
whether modules are embedded or not; using just the bare category name led to
accidentally enabling these options when users used the wrong "--enable"
operation on the menuselect command line.

Now the internal option names are prefixed with "EMBED_", so they won't be
the same as the name of the category containing the modules they control
the embedding of.

Update prep_tarball script to download pre-exported documentation.

I've updated the prep_tarball script to now download the pre-exported documentation
from the Asterisk wiki. This will give us more control over what is being included
in the tarball releases, and will make both the PDF and HTML exported documentation
look much better (especially when viewing from a console).

Terry Wilson 857814f435 Add SRTP support for Asterisk
After 5 years in mantis and over a year on reviewboard, SRTP support is finally
being comitted. This includes generic CHANNEL dialplan functions that work for
getting the status of whether a call has secure media or signaling as defined
by the underlying channel technology and for setting whether or not a new
channel being bridged to a calling channel should have secure signaling or
media. See doc/tex/secure-calls.tex for examples.

This will save a considerable amount of CPU on the BSDs, including Mac OS X,
as it eliminates several places in the code that we previously used a busy
loop. Additionally, this adds a res_timing interface, using kqueue timers.

Leif Madsen 8b11ae2e4f Add ability to generate ASCII documentation from the TeX files.
These changes add the ability to run 'make asterisk.txt' just like the existing
'make asterisk.pdf' commands to generate a text document from the TeX files we
have in the doc/tex/ directory. I've also updated a few of the .tex files because
they weren't properly escaping certain characters so they would show up as Unicode
characters (like [U+021C]). Made changes to the configure scripts so it would
detect the catdvi program which is required to convert the .dvi file generated
by latex.

I've also added a few lines to the build_tools/prep_tarball script so that the
text documentation gets generated and added to future tarballs of Asterisk
releases.

Kevin P. Fleming 0f01ace7af Ensure that linker version scripts (used for symbol export control) always exist.
Using wildcard matching in the Makefile is not adequate to determine whether
an export file should exist for a module or not, so instead we'll just
create one if the module needs one, or copy the default one if it does not.

Kevin P. Fleming 2be88e05c0 Allow symbol export filtering to work properly on platforms that have symbol prefixes.
Some platforms prefix externally-visible symbols in object files generated
from C sources (most commonly, '_' is the prefix). On these platforms,
the existing symbol export filtering process ends up suppressing all the symbols
that are supposed to be left visible. This patch allows the prefix string
to be supplied to the top-level Makefile in the LINKER_SYMBOL_PREFIX variable,
and then generates the linker scripts as required to include the prefix
supplied.

David Vossel 73cb2d507b Unit Test Framework API
The Unit Test Framework is a new API that manages registration and
execution of unit tests in Asterisk with the purpose of verifying the
operation of C functions. The Framework consists of a single test
manager accompanied by a list of registered test functions defined
within the code. A test is defined, registered, and unregistered
from the framework using a set of macros which allow the test code
to only be compiled within asterisk when the TEST_FRAMEWORK flag is
enabled in menuselect. This allows the test code to exist in the
same file as the C functions it intends to verify. Registered tests
may be viewed and executed via a set of new CLI commands. CLI commands
are also present for generating and exporting test results into xml
and txt formats.

For more information and use cases please refer to the documentation
provided at the beginning of the test.h file.

Ensure that add-on modules can be embedded, fix up Makefile.moddir_rules

be built, and explicitly list the addons modules in its Makefile, since
the module names don't follow any pattern.

Russell Bryant c511a26749 Move Asterisk-addons modules into the main Asterisk source tree.
Someone asked yesterday, "is there a good reason why we can't just put these
modules in Asterisk?". After a brief discussion, as long as the modules are
clearly set aside in their own directory and not enabled by default, it is
perfectly fine.

For more information about why a module goes in addons, see README-addons.txt.

chan_ooh323 does not currently compile as it is behind some trunk API updates.
However, it will not build by default, so it should be okay for now.

Terry Wilson 71a3a2ebf6 Add Calendaring support for Asterisk
This commit add Calendaring support to Asterisk for iCalendar, CalDAV, and MS
Exchange calendars. Exchange support has only been tested on Exchange Server 2k3
and does not support forms-based authentication at this time (patches *very*
welcome). Exchange support is also currently missing the ability to return a
list of a meting's attendees (again, patches are very, very welcome).

Features include:
Querying a calendar for events over a specific time range
Checking a calendar's busy status via the dialplan
Writing calendar events via the dialplan (CalDAV and Exchange only)
Handling calendar event notifications through the dialplan

Russell Bryant cba19c8a67 Convert the ast_channel data structure over to the astobj2 framework.
There is a lot that could be said about this, but the patch is a big
improvement for performance, stability, code maintainability,
and ease of future code development.

The channel list is no longer an unsorted linked list. The main container
for channels is an astobj2 hash table. All of the code related to searching
for channels or iterating active channels has been rewritten. Let n be
the number of active channels. Iterating the channel list has gone from
O(n^2) to O(n). Searching for a channel by name went from O(n) to O(1).
Searching for a channel by extension is still O(n), but uses a new method
for doing so, which is more efficient.

The ast_channel object is now a reference counted object. The benefits
here are plentiful. Some benefits directly related to issues in the
previous code include:

1) When threads other than the channel thread owning a channel wanted
access to a channel, it had to hold the lock on it to ensure that it didn't
go away. This is no longer a requirement. Holding a reference is
   sufficient.

2) There are places that now require less dealing with channel locks.

3) There are places where channel locks are held for much shorter periods
   of time.

4) There are places where dealing with more than one channel at a time becomes
_MUCH_ easier. ChanSpy is a great example of this. Writing code in the
future that deals with multiple channels will be much easier.

Some additional information regarding channel locking and reference count
handling can be found in channel.h, where a new section has been added that
discusses some of the rules associated with it.

Mark Michelson also assisted with the development of this patch. He did the
conversion of ChanSpy and introduced a new API, ast_autochan, which makes it
much easier to deal with holding on to a channel pointer for an extended period
of time and having it get automatically updated if the channel gets masqueraded.
Mark was also a huge help in the code review process.

Thanks to David Vossel for his assistance with this branch, as well. David
did the conversion of the DAHDIScan application by making it become a wrapper
for ChanSpy internally.

The changes come from the svn/asterisk/team/russell/ast_channel_ao2 branch.

Improve the build system to *properly* remove unnecessary symbols from the runtime global namespace. Along the way, change the prefixes on some internal-only API calls to use a common prefix.

With these changes, for a module to export symbols into the global namespace, it must have *both* the AST_MODFLAG_GLOBAL_SYMBOLS flag and a linker script that allows the linker to leave the symbols exposed in the module's .so file (see res_odbc.exports for an example).

Mark Michelson 0e5367f7eb Merge the changes from the res_timing_timerfd branch.
This provides a new timing interface. In order to use it,
you must be running a Linux with a kernel version of
2.6.25 or newer and glibc 2.8 or newer.

This timing interface is a good alternative if a timing
source is necessary (e.g. for IAX trunking) but DAHDI is
otherwise unnecessary for the system.

For now, this commit contains the actual work done in the
res_timing_timerfd branch. There are no notices in the README
or CHANGES files yet, but they will be added in my next commit.

The timing API of Asterisk also needs to have a bit of work done
with regards to choosing which timing interface to use. This commit
makes the choice a build-time decision, by only allowing one of
the timer interfaces to be chosen in menuselect. It would be preferable
if the choice could be made at run-time, however. The preferred timing
interface could be loaded and tested, and if it does not work, choice
number two may be used instead. That sort of thing. That is beyond
the scope of work in this branch though.
