f63e9b30ea xserver-xorg: Upgrade 1.16.3 -> 1.17.1 (OELAYOUT_ABI change)
* Increase OELAYOUT_ABI: this is required because the
xf86-video-modesetting package moves from its own recipe to
xserver-xorg and sanity check cannot handle that currently.
The upgrade will delete old xf86-video-modesetting files from
  sysroots.
* Remove upstreamed xserver-xorg patches
* Remove xf86-video-modesetting recipe: the driver is now included in
xserver-xorg recipe, which now produces the xf86-video-modesetting
package. The package version changes from 0.9 to 1.17.1
* Update xserver-xorg license checksum: modesetting license
info (another MIT one) has been added to the file

7b88042b80 gcc-shared-source: Add PV to PN
This means you can have one gcc version for some gcc recipes
(e.g. crosssdk/nativesdk) and another gcc version for target code.

Also remove the preferred version entry from the default toolchains
list since the version issue is now handled automatically.

We also need to specifically handle gcc-source in the license handling
code since expanding ${PV} in the base class isn't possible. Since
gcc-source doesn't generate any packages directly this shouldn't be
an issue and whitelisting in this way is easiest (and matches the
rest of the toolchain handling).

1bb0022384 classes/sanity: avoid bblayers version issue when switching between poky and other DISTRO values
If you create a build directory with poky, or set DISTRO to "poky" and
run bitbake, you'll get a bblayers.conf file with LCONF_VERSION set to
6. If you then set DISTRO to any other value where the new distro config
doesn't pull in poky's config, e.g. "nodistro", you would then get a
bblayers.conf version error which didn't immediately make sense. (The
layer versions have been out-of-step ever since meta-yocto-bsp was
split out of meta-yocto several years ago).

This is just painful and we'd rather users didn't have to deal with
it. Obviously it isn't an OE-Core problem per se, but a simple way to
resolve it for everyone is to bump OE-Core's version to 6 with an
automatic no-op upgrade. Also ensure that multiple upgrade functions
(such as the poky one) have a chance to execute by not breaking out of
the loop as we were before.

Fixes [YOCTO #6139].

8506429368 layer.conf: set a variable to map to the OE Layer Index name
Add a variable that allows us to map the OE-Core layer to the name that
represents it in the OpenEmbedded layer index. This will be used by
bitbake-layers layerindex-fetch so that it knows that for example
OE-Core is already fetched and included in the current configuration.

Note - it won't be required for us to go around and set this for every
layer - we can do the matching based on repo and subdirectory, but
OE-Core is somewhat special in that it does sometimes appear in
different places, for example in poky.

f6ec8dfaf7 Revert "bitbake.conf: don't remove WARN_QA and ERROR_QA from hashes"
It turns out that changing WARN_QA and ERROR_QA results in do_configure's QA
postfunc re-executing, so changing a QA test results in a complete rebuild.

This is just too much and the lesser evil of needing to do a full rebuild to
verify changed QA flags is preferable to an enforced full rebuild.

This reverts commit daecfc3438122b5d146a59a5053e57006d55ccc4.

9c9560f00a bitbake.conf: don't remove WARN_QA and ERROR_QA from hashes
Changing WARN_QA and ERROR_QA should cause do_package_qa to re-execute, so
removing them from the sstate hashes is harmful.

They were added back when sanity testing was part of packaging and this was the
lesser evil, compared to changing sanity tests causing a re-package of
everything.

3bf5b6de3e arch-mips.inc: Change definition of TRANSLATED_TARGET_ARCH
[YOCTO #7230]

In certain system configurations TRANSLATED_TARGET_ARCH will not
expand in the right order for gcc-cross-candian-mips64n32 to be
generated properly.

This will cause SDKs to fail to generate properly.

Changing the global definition of TRANSLATED_TARGET_ARCH always
expands the ABIEXTENSION, which causes the OVERRIDES to pick it up
as well. This effectively defines a new class of overrides for the 'n32'.

The side effect is that we need to duplicate some mips64 overrides, and
redefine others that were previously 'n32' or 'mips64' exclusive to have
the correct semantics.

3e4d84aea3 arch-mips.inc: Add the MIPS ABIEXTENSION to toolchain name
[YOCTO #7143]

When the system is configured for a multilib SDK, such as:

MULTILIBS = "multilib:lib32 multilib:lib64"
DEFAULTTUNE = "mips32r2"
DEFAULTTUNE_virtclass-multilib-lib32 = "mips64-n32"
DEFAULTTUNE_virtclass-multilib-lib64 = "mips64"

Only one of the mips64-n32 or mips64 toolchains is built. Causing the
other to be unavailable. This is due to both recipes ending up with the
same PN.

The toolchain uses the TRANSLATED_TARGET_ARCH in it's name, however the
target for mips64 and mips64 n32 were the same, causing the conflict.
Avoid this conflict by adding the ABIEXTENSION to the name.

46cdaf1c7b kernel: move source and build output to work-shared
commit 3b3f7e785e279 [kernel: Rearrange for 1.8] began the process of
moving the kernel source and build artefacts out of sstate control and
into a shared location.

This changed triggered some workflow issues, as well as bugs related
to the kernel source containing build output, and hence being dirty and
breaking kernel rebuilds.

To solve these issues, and to make it clear that the kernel is not under
sstate control, we move the source and build outputs to:

  work-shared/MACHINE/kernel-source
  work-shared/MACHINE/kernel-build-artifacts

Where kernel-build-artifacts is the kernel build output and
kernel-source is kept "pristine". The build-artifacts contain everything
that is required to build external modules against the kernel source,
and includes the defconfig, the kernel-abiversion, System.map files and
output from "make scripts".

External module builds should either pass O= on the command line, or
set KBUILD_OUTPUT to point to the build-artifacts. module-base.bbclass
takes care of setting KBUILD_OUTPUT, so most existing external module
recipes are transparently adapted to the new source/build layout.

recipes that depend on the kernel source must have a depedency on the
do_shared_workdir task:

 do_configure[depends] += "virtual/kernel:do_shared_workdir"

With this dependency added, the STAGING_KERNEL_DIR will be populated and
available to the rest of the build.

want to set MULTILIB_GLOBAL_VARIANTS. The x86-ish values here
look like reasonable default guesses, but shouldn't override
an explicit setting.

ac638b7bd1 native.bbclass: use BUILD_* variables
Instead of replicating the logic for the host compiler naming from bitbake.conf,
use the BUILD_* variables directly.

Also change BUILD_CPP to use gcc -E (which native.bbclass previously used), as
some recipes (e.g. grub-efi) use ${CPP} with multiple input files, which gcc -E
can handle but cpp can't.

f348071efd spdx.bbclass: improved stability, fixed SPDX compliance issues. Changes are reflected in licenses.conf.
The previous version could crash on dead links in the rootfs, or if the manifest directory did not
exist. The generated files were also not compliant with the SPDX specification, for example file
entries did not always start with the FileName tag, time stamps were incorrectly formatted etc.

Stability issues are addressed by added checks, originally written by Johan Thelin
<johan.thelin@pelagicore.com>, who never upstreamed them. I've also added an option for getting full
SPDX output from FOSSology, i.e. not only for all files, but for the package as well, including
license references. License refs are required in order to process the output by SPDXTools. For that
reason, this option defaults to true.

30c22a35d6 qemux86-64: support X11 when QEMU is emulating a different GPU than vmware
QEMU is capable of emulating four different VGA adapters: cirrus, std, vmware,

the image can be made to launch an X server on when cirrus and std are chosen,

3b19f90bdf INITRD var: make it a list of filesystem images
The initrd image used by the Linux kernel is list of file system images
concatenated together and presented as a single initrd file at boot time.

So far the initrd is a single filesystem image. But in cases like to support
early microcode loading, the initrd image need to have multiple filesystem
images concatenated together.

This commit is extending the INITRD variable from a single filesystem image

a08ef9a3a3 native.bbclass: Properly define directories
For most users this commit will have no effect. But if you come across the idea of giving
different names for paths, you'll get some troubles.

When a recipe inherit native, properly define bindir, sbindir, includedir, sysconfdir, datadir
(using xxxdir_native definitions from meta/conf/bitbake.conf).

For example, edit "${BASE_WORKDIR}/${MULTIMACH_TARGET_SYS}/quilt-native/temp/log.do_configure"
and see what are the arguments given by oe_runconf.

Notice that ${docdir}, ${mandir}, ${infodir}, ${localstatedir} have no associated _native definition.

d58401cac5 texinfo.bbclass: native/cross uses dummy texinfo; target uses host's Texinfo.
To unpack that to more than a single line: -native and -cross recipes are made
to use the dummy Texinfo utilities provided by texinfo-dummy-native if they

the host system's Texinfo utilities, but could be made to use the
texinfo-native recipe we already ship with some config file changes.

3e528d3e4b Make ppce300c3 tune hard-float by default
The tuning file for PowerPC e300c3 is soft-float. In OE-classic it was hard-
float and it should be as the c3 has an fpu. I have modified the tuning file
to include both a hard-float version (using the existing ppce300c3 name) and
an optional soft-float version (called ppce300c3-nf).

The following patch also passes a "--with-cpu=e300c3" argument to GLIBC.
For this to have any effect the sqrt/sqrtf implementations added by the
"glibc.fix_sqrt2.patch" are required and also an additional "Implies" file
(added to the mentioned patch as a separate patch for eglibc_2.19).

Tested with eglibc 2.19 on PowerPC MPC5125.

beac8c5ac2 tune: Remove tune-x86_64.inc
The tune-x86_64.inc file is conceptually flawed. x86_64 is more akin to
the x86 and x86-32 ABIs defined in arch-x86.inc than it is a concrete
tune file, such as i586 or core2 - to the extent that everything but the
default tune is defined in the arch-x86.inc file. This becomes very
apparant when attempting to include tune-x86_64.inc in the x86 tune
hierarchy.

Remove the tune-x86_64.inc tune file in favor of it being an ABI
definition in arch-x86.inc and relying on the linear hierarchy of
concrete cpu-types in tune-i586, tune-core2, and tune-corei7.

core2_64 should suffice in lieu of x86_64 for all but a couple esoteric
corner cases involving older pre-core2 CPUs. In these cases, if they
exist at all, the BSP can replace the include tune-x86_64.inc with
arch-x86.inc and set the default tune to x86_64.

bf3cb2cf55 tune: Make 32b or 64b explicit in tune name for core2
Core2 has both a 32b and a 64b variant. Currently, core2 implies 32b,
while core2_64 is the 64b version. This implicit 32b mode will become
confusing in later architectures, such as corei7, where it would be
natural for people to assume "corei7" meant 64 bit.

Rather than carrying forward an implicit 32b mode and rather than
changing the naming scheme part way through the architecture hiearchy,
make the 32b and 64b variant explicit in the tune name by changing core2
to core2-32. This patch also standardises on using '-' in the names.

31d3449e1a tune-core2: Replace -mtune=generic with -mtune=core2
-march specifies which ISA to use. -mtune specifies which cpu-type to
optimize instruction ordering for, but not which ISA to use. There are
times when it may make sense to specify mtune=generic and use a more
specific march, such as core2, but the opposite makes little sense at
all: use cpu-type specific ISA, but order the instructions
generically. While the -mtune is implied by -march, gcc does not verify
it is using -mtune=core2 with:

    gcc -Q -march=core2 --help=target

Explicitly specify -mtune=core2 to be sure.

3a39071677 i586: Only add the current tune to PACKAGE_EXTRA_ARCHS
The generic x86 build supports i586 by default, so this specific tune
file technically doesn't add any specific ARCHes to PACKAGE_EXTRA_ARCHS.
For consistency, append the current tune to PACKAGE_EXTRA_ARCHS.

Since we do not have specific tune files for i386 and i486, just drop
them.

These could be added to tune-x86 version if there is a need to
maintain them, but they really do not belong here.

939fec6ffc x86: Replace ia32 with x86 when referring to the generic architecture
ia32 implies 32bit, while these files provide descriptions for IA32,
X86_64, and X32 architectures. The term "x86" fits this used better
without resorting to using the term "Intel" which isn't quite right as
it excludes things like the tune-c3 file describing a Via CPU.

ab5bea71e2 default-providers: Change update-alternatives provider to opkg-utils
This allows dependencies to be added to the opkg recipe without causing circular
dependency loops. As opkg-utils has minimal dependencies it is the best recipe
to provide update-alternatives.

This partially solves Yocto Project issue 4836. More work is still needed for a
complete solution.

SUMMARY should not end with a full stop; however if DESCRIPTION is not

odd without a full stop separating the SUMMARY value and the rest of the

9a1705e9a5 bitbake.conf: Exclude WORKDIR changes from sstate checksums
The layout of stamp files ensures that changes to WORKDIR mean recipes get rebuilt correctly.
Since WORKDIR usually contains MULTIMACH_TARGET_SYS and that depends on tune variables,
including WORKDIR in sstate checksums adds a lot of noise to the system for what amounts to
no gain.

On the other hand, removing it reduces noise, reduces the size of the siginfo files and
reduces the amount of processing bitbake has to do. It therefore seems like dropping it
from the checksums is an all around win.

fd32fcb9d4 ia32-base: Remove cpio and ext3 defaults
On real IA hardware, neither the ext3 or cpio images are particularly useful
or used. cpio is legacy from initramfs and that specific image now overrides
FSTYPES accordingly. The size difference in filesystems makes ext3 as a file
format less useful, mainly being useful in the qemu case.

When needed users can still override the default FSTYPES so having
saner defaults makes sense. This improves build times and uses less
network bandwidth for builds and releases.

6af097c880 bitbake.conf: Remove obsolete/unused MIRROR cruft
ADOBE_MIRROR, HANDHELDS_CVS and E_SVN were broken links and not used by
any recipe in oe-core.

FREEDESKTOP_CVS is no longer useful because all the source code that
matters is in git; no recipe in oe-core still uses the CVS repository.

E_MIRROR, FREEBSD_MIRROR, FREESMARTPHONE_GIT still point to valid-seeming
locations but there are no recipes in oe-core that use them. Any layers
which need these variables can define them for themselves.

GPE_SVN, GPE_EXTRA_SVN, GPEPHONE_MIRROR and GPEPHONE_SVN are not used by
any recipe in oe-core and the corresponding projects seem to be mostly
dead upstream. Again, any layers which still wish to use these variables
can define them locally.

All the above are just wasting space in bitbake's datastore and would be
better deleted.
